Skara Brae - Isles of Orkney
Lost to the world for thousands of years, buried in the detritus of the people who lived there and then finally abandoned to be buried later by drifting sands; Skara Brae is world-famous as one of the best preserved neolithic sites to be found anywhere. Older than the pyramids of Egypt, Skara Brae is considered to have been occupied some 3500 years BC.
