We tend to shoot into the light most often at sunrise and sunset, for the beauty and drama that we see in the sky. Placing a subject between the light source and the point of shooting is not a usual practice, however, in landscape and macro photography, back lighting can produce some fascinating effects as we play with refraction, shadow, texture and tones.
